Who was Malcolm Eglin?
Founder of The Malcolm Eglin Trust
Malcolm Eglin was born in Liverpool towards the end of the Second World War. Educated on the Isle of Man, at King William’s College, Malcolm developed a wide range of interests including tennis and sailing.
After leaving the College he lived for a time on the Wirral before moving to Bath and subsequently to London whilst pursuing a career in marketing where he displayed considerable communication skills.
In addition to his sporting interests of tennis and sailing, he became involved in helping to encourage young people as well as younger executives in the marketing world.
Although he lived in London up to his early death in 1990, from cancer, he never lost his love and respect for his roots in Merseyside, and his happy experiences in Bath.
He was therefore keen that these three geographical areas of the UK should form the focus of The Trust, where it would help and give direction to a carefully selected group of young people through a number of activities including Adventure Training and Tennis.

The Malcolm Eglin Junior Tennis Performance Programme
From small beginnings at Putney Lawn Tennis Club in South West London, the Junior Tennis Performance Programme grew to a three centre operation with highly energised Junior Squads in Liverpool, London and Bath, including a growing number of committed and motivated 9-14 year olds.

Under the management of Tennis Director, Tom Entwistle, coaching teams inspire, train and motivate these young people to bring out the best in them so that they can all fulfil their tennis playing potential.

Many of the graduates from this programme have gone on to achieve greater success in national and international competitions. One former member of the Bath/Writhlington Squad recently won a place on the DePaul University Division 1 Tennis Programme in Chicago, USA.

Both Bath and Liverpool squads are keen to expand their programmes. They are always looking out for young talent and for new funding to support young players who show potential to fit in with the objectives and ethos of The Trust and it's Junior Tennis Programme.

About the Bath/Writhlington Squad
A relationship between the Malcolm Eglin Trust and The Writhlington Tennis Centre was set up in May 2007 as a result of a parent seeking financial support for her daughter to have coaching. This relationship is still going strong with over 40 players having received financial support over the years.

Well over half of these past players are still involved in tennis in some way, coaching at different venues around the country, playing whilst studying at University, or still actively involved at their local clubs. It’s fantastic what the Trust has given to these players, parents and us as a community tennis centre.

Tennis is hugely rewarding but also expensive. Many talented players are not able to pay for the training you need to compete at a higher level. Writhlington offers bespoke tennis packages to a small group of players that are dedicated and committed to the sport. With the Trust’s ongoing support, it will continue to inspire and nurture young budding juniors.
